NT35NE 50 centred 35621 58427

Middleton Lime works are situated along the S bank of the Middleton North Burn and extend to the W side of Hurcheon Hill. The lime works are at NT 35621 58427 with the main quarry workings centred at NT 35452 57932. There are older workings further W, which are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Edinburghshire 1854, sheet 19), centred at NT 35486 57528, NT 35778 57672, NT 35660 58429 and NT 35844 58813.

The 2nd Edition OS 6-inch map (ibid) shows an internal rail system linking the quarries to the limeworks.

These limestone quarries were separate from the Esperton Lime Works which is recorded under NT35NW 16 and NT35NW 83.
