NO21SE 24 2992 1375.

(NO 2992 1375) A fine free-standing sundial is situated in the middle of the forecourt of Melville House. On an octagonal graduated base is a square baluster-shaft having a dial on each side and bearing the date 1677 with a shield, now illegible, beneath a coronet. The shaft supports a multi-dialled head. The sundial came from Balgonie Castle (NO30SW 4). RCAHMS 1933, visited 1925.

This sundial has been considerably damaged and is now an amalgam of various carved stones. The shaft and multi-dialled head have not survived.

SUNDIAL.

Centred in the forecourt of Melville is a fine free-standing sundial, which has been brought from Balgonie Castle. On an octagonal graduated base is a square baluster-shaft having a dial on each side and bearing the date 1677 with a shield, on which the charges are illegible, beneath a coronet. The shaft supports a multi-dialled head.

RCAHMS 1933, visited 25 June 1925.
