This milestone stands on the N side of the A92 public road, 500m E of Little Fithie farmsteading. It is a red sandstone pillar, hexagonal in section and 0.21m in diameter at the base, tapering slightly to a rounded top at a height of 0.55m. Each facet measures about 95mm in breadth and those on the WSW and ENE each bear a small rectangular niche or recess that once held an information plate, probably made of cast iron. That on the WSW side would have indicated the distance in miles (6) to Montrose; that on the ENE probably showed that the distance to Forfar was 11 miles.
Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 16 August 2009.
Further examination of this milestone has revealed a mason's mark, comprising an X with a bar across the top, on its S side.
Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 13 March 2010.
