Commission And Contract (1960)

A contract of six multi-storey tower blocks that constituted part of Phase II of a public housing development at Muirhouse. The grouping consisted of the following: two fifteen-storey blocks, known as Birnie's Court and Fidra Court, containing 112 dwellings in total; two nine-storey slab blocks with balcony access, known as Gunnet Court and May Court, containing 96 dwellings in total; two eleven-storey blocks with balcony access known as Oxcars Court and Inchmickery Court, containing 151 dwellings in total. The blocks were commissioned by Edinburgh Borough Council. Construction was approved by committee in 1960. The contractor for the fifteen-storey blocks and the nine-storey blocks was Wimpey. The contractor for the eleven-storey blocks was Scotcon.
