Archaeology Notes

NB43SE 10.07 centred 44989 31983 and 45177 31963

Examination of a series of vertical air photographs taken early in 1946 (106G/Scot/UK 103, frames 3259-3262; 4152-4155, flown 19 May 1946), has identified the main technical site, several dispersed domestic sites, an area of aircraft hangars, with buildings and huts.

Much of the area taken by two small camps has been taken by the Park End Industrial Estate and Ceann nam Buailtean Housing Estate. Groups of at least twenty four huts with what may be an aircraft hangar and a second group of nineteen huts, mainly of the Nissen type (frames 3259-3260) are visible on the photographs taken in 1946.

Information from RCAHMS (DE), January 2009.
