Three possible WW II structures have been identified from large scale vertical air photographs taken in 1947 (CPE/Scot/UK 205, frames 5002-5003, flown 9 May 1947), in fields on Alderston Hill.
Visible on the photographs is a hut and two tall circular towers with conical roofs (c.NT 4922 7525 and c.NT 4906 7514) set within low octagonal or septagonal walls. It is not known what these towers were for, but they can be assigned to the WW II period as they do not appear on pre-war mapping, though the hut is depicted on the current OS digital maps..
A similar structure to these towers has been noted at Whinhill in Renfrewshire (NS27SE 126), and it has been suggested (Mr I Borwn, Radar Archive), that they may be connected with a DF station.
It is similar in appearance to those visible on other vertical air photographs from around the same date at Sandyford near Ayr (NS32NE 123) and Whinhill in Renfrewshire (NS27SE 126).
