Archaeology Notes

NA92NE 8001 c. 97 26

N58 7 W7 9

NLO: Aird Bhreinis [name: NA 979 268].

(Classified as Lugsail [lugger]: no cargo specified, but registration cited as SY 70, and date of loss as 12 March 1932). Fair Maid: this vessel was wrecked at Brenish, [on the] SW side of Lewis.

Registration: Brenish. Built 1923. 2grt. Length: 6m. Beam: 2m.

(Location of loss cited as N58 7.0 W7 8.0).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Brenish is not noted as such on the 1997 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map, but is presumably to be equated with a settlement or location near Aird Bhreinis.

The vessel presumably stranded.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 6 October 2008.
