Ground Survey

A survey was carried out in advance of the electrification of the Island of Eigg. The survey covered the proposed sites of infrastructure, (wind farm, hydro scheme and solar array), and the routes of the cable network connecting these elements. Where it was felt necessary cable routes were realigned to avoid known archaeology. Only two new archaeological sites were recorded during the work:

Laig 1: NM 4682 8749 A ruinous stone-built structure measuring 11 x 5m over walls 1m thick.

Archive currently retained by Archaeological and Ancient Landscape Survey. Reports deposited with the Eigg Trust, Highland Council and RCAHMS.

Funder: Eigg Electric Ltd.
