Archaeology Notes

NG54NE 8001 c. 587 499

N57 44.2 W6 25.4

NLO: Eilean Fladday [name centred NG 588 510]

Isle of Raasay [name centred NG 56 41]

Sound of Raasay [name centred NG 55 55].

Possibly on map sheet NG55SE.

(Classified as Yacht: date of loss cited as 28 September 1927). Eilean Aches: this vessel was wrecked on the South end of Fladdy [Eilean Fladday], near Raasay.

(Location of loss cited as N57 28.5 W6 1.5).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Eilean Fladday is situated in the Sound of Raasay, immediately W of Raasay itself.

An alternative location on Fladda-chuain [name: NG 361 815] may be suggested, but appears improbable.

This vessel presumably stranded. It remains unclear whether she was sail-, steam- or motor-driven.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 4 August 2008.
