For Buchanan Castle (NS 46194 88608) and associated buildings, see NS48NE 21.00.

A large WW II hutted camp is situated immediately W of Buchanan Castle (NS48NE21.00), it has been identified from vertical air photographs (106G/Scot/UK 85, frames 3457 - 3459, flown 10 May 1946). Visible on the photographs are at least 67 huts either joined or individual. The main part of the camp is loacted W of the Castle, but there are further huts to the N and S of the house.

Some of the huts are extant.

The large group of huts formed a military hospital, one of whose patients included Rudolf Hess (information from Mr J Mitchell, 2008)

Information from RCAHMS (DE), May 2008.
