Possibly in Glenorchy and Inishail parish.
(Classified as Airspeed Oxford I: date of loss cited as 2 March 1942). L4597: this aircraft suffered engine failure, [and] landed on ice on Loch Laidon, 4 miles SW of Rannoch. Recovered? 45MU. Registration: British.
(Location of loss cited as N56 38.5 W4 40.0).
I G Whittaker 1998.
The map sheet assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary. The location that is cited by Whittaker remains unverified.
In this context, 'Rannoch' presumably refers to the limited settlement around Rannoch Station (NN45NW 2) at NN 42249 57878. This would indicate a location of loss towards the SW end of the loch.
A 'terrestrial' number is assigned to this record on account of the loss being that of an aircraft in an inland (freshwater) context.
