The North Star Cinema was originally opened in 1913. It is a large two storey building with pitched roof and gable fronting Harbour Street. It appears on the 3rd edition of the 6-inch OS map (1929). In its original condition it presented an attractively composed symmetrical elevation centred on a large arched window above twin entrance doors with flanking groups of windows on the ground and first floors. The building has been much altered and now comprises a very plain gable fronting Harbour Street with double entrance doors at ground level. Apparently nothing of its original interior survives. At the time of writing a proposal for its demolition was being considered by Shetland Islands Council. Information from RCAHMS (EAL), April 2008.
