Field Visit (27 October 1987)
In rough ground beside the A93 there are the remains of a farmstead comprising four buildings set roughly at right angles to one another. On the SE side, there are the wasted remains of a substantial two-compartment rectangular building (14.4m from ENE to WSW by 5.4m transversely over turf-covered stone wall-footings 1.1m thick) with a kiln at its SSW end (3.3m square and 1.1m deep); this is probably a kiln-barn. On its SE side there is a yard (16m by 17m internally) which has a dished appearance. To the SW there are the wasted remains of a building measuring 10.9m from NW to SE by 4.2m transversely overall. Parallel to this, on the NE, and cut by the road, there is what may be another building represented by turf-covered stony banks and measuring at least 9.2m from NW to SE by 4.4m transversely overall. A gully separates these three buildings from a fourth on the NW (11m from SW to NE by 5.7m transversely over turf-covered stone wall-footings 0.8m thick). The farmstead may be that of Craigvey depicted by Stobie (1783); Craigbey on Ainslie (1794). Visited by RCAHMS (IMS/JP) 27 October 1987 RCAHMS 1990
