Archaeology Notes

NS56NE 4956.12 5879 6886

This is a girder bridge carrying four, 36-inch cast-iron Craigmaddie water mains over the now dismantled railway at the former Possil station (NS56NE 2382 ). This dates from the 1909 pipe laying contract resulting from the 1885 Act which allowed the extension to Glasgow Corporation Waterworks. This pipe bridge is a dedicated structure for carrying the elevated water pipes over a railway (Muylle Id=479).

Information from Jelle Muylle, engineer carrying out survey of sites and structures of the Glasgow Corporation Loch Katrine Waterworks scheme for RCAHMS, Historic Scotland funded, January 2008.
