This subterranean valve chamber has two sets of stairs of ten risers with distinctive railings and masonry walls leading down into the chambers from ground level. They each have 9-inch scour valves and air valves. The roof of the chamber has five arches lying perpendicular to the mains pipes. The access doors are of wood and barred with the original iron grilles. The original rooflights have been covered with concrete lids. The site is shown on a drawing entitled 'Extensions to Works Act 1885, New Main from Craigmaddie 1909, Pipe Laying Contract, Valve and Manhole Chamber and 9-inch scour pipes' courtesy of Scottish Water (Muylle Id=472).
