Archaeology Notes

NS56NE 4956.04 54985 69463

The railway is contemporary with the water pipes (the Glasgow, Dunbarton and Helensburgh Railway was opened on the 28 May 1858 and became part of the Glasgow and Ediburgh Railway in 1862). The pipes travel under the north bound carriage way of the current road, well below the railway bridge. The evidence for this layout is the presence of two airvalves access covers in the road (Muylle Id=463).

Information from Jelle Muylle, engineer carrying out survey of sites and structures of the Glasgow Corporation Loch Katrine Waterworks scheme for RCAHMS, Historic Scotland funded, December 2007/January 2008.
