Archaeology Notes

NH64NE 8019 c. 65 47

N57 30.0 W4 15.0

NLO: Beauly Firth [name centred NH 59 47]

Inverness [name: NH 665 455].

Possibly on map sheet NH64NW.

Not to be confused with NH64NE 8017.

(Classified as Ferry, with forty passengers and cargo of coal: date of loss cited as January 1818). Unknown: this vessel sank near Kessock Pier.

(Location of loss cited as N57 30.0 W4 15.0).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative, being derived from the unverified location of loss that is cited by Whittaker. North Kessock Pier (NH64NE 121), North Kessock, East Pier (NH64NE 151) and South Kessock Pier (NH64NE 152) are at NH 6538 4787, NH 6558 4783 and NH 6552 4723 respectively.

The ferry presumably crossed the Kessock Narrows, between Inverness [name: NH 665 455] and North Kessock [name: NH 651 480].

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 17 December 2007.
