Archaeology Notes

NH75NE 8014 unlocated

NLO: Fort George [name: NH 762 567].

(No classification or cargo specified: date cited as February 1829). Hawke (possible name): small boat belonging to Hawke of Belfast, found near Fort George.

Registration: Belfast.

(Location of loss cited as N57 35.0 W4 5.0).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The map sheet assigned to this record is essentially tentative, being derived from the location of discovery of the boat that is cited by Whittaker. The date cited is presumably that of report, rather than loss. The major artillery fortification of Fort George (NH75NE 3.00) is at NH 76079 56674.

The discovery of the boat may represent the loss of a vessel offshore, possibly beyond Scottish waters.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 13 December 2007.
