Archaeology Notes

HU33NE 8027 unlocated

NLO: West Burra [name centred HU 36 32]

Hamnavoe [name: HU 371 358].

Possibly on map sheet HU33SE.

(Classified as East-Indiaman: no cargo specified, but date of loss cited as 1728). Unknown: this vessel was lost near Lunna, West Burra. Registration: Dutch.

(Location of loss cited as N60 6.0 W1 20.0).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The map sheet assigned to this record is essentially tentative, being derived from the unverified location of loss that is cited by Whittaker. Lunna is not noted as such on the 1998 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map, but may possibly be equated with Lu Ness [name: HU 370 352], to the S of Hamnavoe.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 23 October 2007.
