Architecture Notes

NJ02SE 56. 00192 24697

Ballintomb Cottage is situated to the E of the village of Dulnain Bridge, on the N side of the River Dulnain approximately 2.2 miles from Grantown on Spey to the NE. Two storey L-plan with lean-to porch entrance and later single storey addition to the rear. The front elevation faces SSE. The cottage has decorative bargeboards to the gables and traditional timber sliding sash and case windows with astrgals, divided 4 over 2. The interior is mostly clad with pitch pine which has developed an attractive patina of age. Ballintomb Cottage was built in the early 20th century as a summer house by a local farmer at the cost of approximately £425. Constructed of corrugated iron, it is thought that it was a bought as a kit house from the catalogue of William Cooper Ltd. of Old Kent Road, London. At the time of writing the property was for sale. RCAHMS (EAL) September 2007.
