NLO: Elliot [name: NO 620 395]

Not to be confused with NO53SW 8002 or NS28SW 8008.

Possibly on map sheet NO53NE.

Dundee, 27th Feb. The AGNES (sloop), Galloway, of and from Arbroath, for Campbeltown, has been wrecked at Cove: crew saved.

Source: LL, No. 17,122, London, Monday, March 1 1869.

NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 11606).

(Classified as sloop: no cargo specified, but date of loss cited as February 1869). Agnes: this vessel was wrecked at Cove, North of Dundee. Capt. Galloway.

Registration: Arbroath.

(Location of loss cited as N56 32.0 W2 35.0).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The location assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary, being derived from that cited by Whittaker, which, however, falls out at sea. Cove is not noted as such on the 1999 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map.

The vessel presumably stranded, rather than foundered.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 16 August 2007.
