Activities

Field Visit (June 1987)

NO15NE 26 1548 5702

This mill is situated on the E bank of the Drumturn Burn 950m W of Corb. The mill-site now appears as earthworks which are difficult to interpret, although the possible remains of two mill-buildings and a kiln can be identified.

The well-preserved lade can be traced northwards for a distance of about 80m.

The steading, which lies about 60m to the E, comprises two buildings ranged on the SW side of an enclosure and reduced to their stone wall-footings. The largest is of four compartments and measures 33m from NW to SE by 5m transversely overall, the other is of two compartments and measures 19m from NW to SE by 6m transversely overall; the enclosure measures 52m from NW to SE by up to 20m transversely internally.

Whilst the mill is depicted as ruinous on the first edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire, 1867, sheet 42), Stobie's map (1783) records what is probably the steading, but omits to show a mill symbol.

Note (10 December 1997)

Three unroofed buildings annotated as Ruins are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1867, sheet xlii). Two unroofed buildings attached to an incomplete enclosure are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1976).
