Bailey Bridge over the Water of Leith at the S side of St Mark's Park erected in 1950. The bridge connects St Mark's Park with the footpath running past Powderhall Refuse Collection depot. Measuring about 50m in length and standing to c.35m, it is a standard pattern Bailey bridge of steel with steel piers standing on stone and concrete bases. The bridge presently has wooden decking of a more recent date, but the original steelwork is in poor condition.
The Bailey Bridge replaced an earlier structure which is depicted on the OS 25-inch scale (Edinburghshire) map of c.1930.
The original Bailey Bridge was erected over the Water of Leith in the 1950s. By 2007 the steel piers had become badly corroded and the deck required major maintenance. Edinburgh City Council put forward a proposal to replace the existing bridge with an Ekki timber platform and parapet with pre-cast masonry piers.

Photographic Survey (June 2008)
NT 2570 7559 A Level 1 photographic survey was conducted in June 2008 to record the Powderhall Bailey Bridge prior to its demolition and replacement by a new walkway. The bridge was a 3-section Bailey Bridge of standard modular design. It was 52m in length with three 4m wide spanning sections. The bridge was supported on two iron piers and was 8.04m above the Water of Leith. Examination of archive material
including photographs taken at the time of construction confirmed that the bridge is of standard Bailey format. The bridge had undergone minor episodes of repair since it was first constructed in 1948.
