Activities

Field Visit (27 October 2015)

Stone building(s), naust and stepping stones. A roughly rectangular plan building c. 5 x 3m has been excavated out of what appears to be an earlier circular structure c. 10m dia externally. The spoil may exist as an extension to the N side which also appears to be the entrance. In the SE corner a few larger stone slabs have been used to form a small niche c. 0.5m cubed. The walls are barely 1m high. To the west of the building just above the HWM a naust c. 8 x 4m x 2m deep with a V shaped cross section has been cut into the coastal bank. Connecting the HWMs by the naust and the tidal island adjacent is a set of 6 placed stepping stones and its likely that a further 3 or 4 are now missing. To the north of the naust is a short section of L shaped plan wall at the HWM c. 6 x 1.5m x 0.5m high x .6m thick partly backfilled behind to form a platform.
