Archaeology Notes

NH66NE 130 centred 6645 6820

Running inland from High Water Mark between river and stone pier is a disused military complex. Two large concrete blocks 2.7m sqare by 1.5m high stand at present High Water Mark at Eastern end of complex, 60m apart.

A line of fence posts 1.2m high runs out from the High Water Mark into the mudflats at this point for approximately 150m. (continuing a line of same on the shore but at a slight angle towards the west).

The military complex has upstanding building and Anderson shelters with blast embankments, etc. (Two concrete blocks are being gradually undermined by tidal erosion).

On the Eastern side of the stone built pier adjacent is a third concrete block being slowly covered by blown sand.

Another fishing stance like those on Western side of pier stands in intertidal zone 60-70m out from 2nd concrete block on Eastern side of pier.
