Archaeology Notes

NH66NW 73 6167 6518

Wooden channel/ trough and associated pond.

3.5m long by 0.25m wide by 0.25m deep. Square nail holes visible on upper surface. Probably made in three sections. This channel was made to drain water which accumulated close to the church (NH66NW 1) either river water stuck behind the levees ot seawater which came in during a storm. Underlies existing levee and may be associated with dressed red sandstone blocks which appear behind and under and incorporated in the present levee. Narrows towards the seaward side and a possible channel continues out towards the sea through the salt marshes.

CFA/MORA Coastal Assessment Survey 1998.
