Archaeology Notes

Disused pier on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Ross and Cromarty, sheet c; 1880).

A disused and dilapidated pier. The remains comprise a structure 77m in length by 5.5m wide and costructed from three rows of piles which retain a boulder core of which little remains. The two outer lines of piling are evenly spread at 10-15cm while the third central row of piles are 0.80-1.0m spacing. The piles themselves are approximately 0.10-0.20m in diameter and are upstanding to a maximum of approximately 0.75m, although the majority are approximately 0.3m in height. There appears to be no sign of a track remaining on the landward end of the pier structure.
