NO11SW 23.01 NO 13600 19933

A large slab of sandstone, bearing a socket at the centre of its upper surface, is situated on the crest of the inner rampart on the S side of the fort on the summit of Moredun. The slab measures 1.43m from E to W by 1.08m transversely and up to 0.27m in thickness. The socket sits at the centre of a depression, which crosses the slab from N to S and measures 700mm in width by 30mm in depth. Irregularly octagonal on plan, the vertically-sided and flat-bottomed socket measures up to 335mm across by 180mm in depth; a rim around the edge measures about 80mm in thickness by 30mm in height.
