ND27NW 8015 c. 203 768

N58 40.3 W3 22.5

NLO: Dunnet Head [name: ND 203 768]

Pentland Firth [name centred ND 35 81].

Possibly on map sheet ND17NE.

Formerly also entered as ND27NW 8022 (unlocated).

Wick, 18th Nov. Part of the side of a colonial built vessel, without marks, 24 ft by 12, apparently a long time in the water, has washed ashore at Dunnet head: also four logs of yellow pine, with the ends burnt.

Source: LL, No. 16,727, London, Friday, November 22 1867.

NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 11313).

(No classification or cargo specified: date cited as 18 November 1867). Unknown: wreckage at Dunnet Head. (Long time in the water and burnt).

(Location of loss cited as N58 40.33 W3 22.0).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The map sheet and quasi-administrative area assigned to this record are essentially tentative, being derived from the reported location of discovery of wreckage. The vessel may have caught fire offshore, possibly beyond Scottish waters.

The date cited by Whittaker is presumably that of the reported discovery of wreckage.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 24 April 2007.
