Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 21 December 2006

This courtyard farmstead lies on the W side of the Strath Burn, accessible from the E by a ford. It comprises a long range of cart shed, turnip store and byres on the NE, a barn with water-powered threshing machine and shed on the SE, a stalled stable with henhouse on the SW, and a barn and two-storey, three-bay cottage with front porch and outshot on the NW. The waterwheel was housed to the rear (SE) side of the barn, fed by a lade depicted on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877 and 1907, sheet xxiv). The buildings are of roughly coursed flagstone, some also floored with flagstone, and have slate roofs. An earlier house with byre lies to the SE, round-ended on the NW, with at least three cruck slots visible on its NE side. The farmstead was unoccupied when visited in 2000.
