Archaeology Notes

NT43NE 200 c.4906 3619

A World War II spigot mortar mounting is situated immediately inside the NE boundary fence of the Burgh Primary School (NT43NE 195). It consists of a circular concrete cylinder standing to about 1m with a fixed steel pin in the centre of the top.

The mounting was for a 29mm spigot mortar which was placed on the steel pin and would have formed part of a defence line.
