Archaeology Notes

NJ01NE 59 NJ 05629 16953.

This farmstead, which is situated on the W bank of Dorback Burn 370m NW of Lower Drum farmsteading, comprises two buildings, a hut and a corn-drying kiln. The larger building stands on the W side of the steading and measures 13.4m from NNE to SSW by 5.5m transversely over walls reduced to stone footings up to 0.4m in height. There is an entrance in the WNW side and a small outshot projects from the middle of the ESE side. A turf-built hut, measuring 3.8m from NW to SE by 3.5m transversely over all, has been built against the NE corner of this building. The second building lies 10m E of the first and measures 6.3m from N to S by 5.3m over turf-built walls up to 0.8m in height. There is an entrance in the middle of the E side. The corn-drying kiln, which lies immediately N of the buildings, has a flue in its NE side.
