(Name: NO 1183 2407). Supposed site of The Battle of the Clans. (NR) Between Clan Chattan and Clan Kay (1396).

OS 6" map, (1959)

In 1396, in an attempt to settle a Highland feud, a judicial combat was fought on the Inch of Perth between thirty men of the Clan Chattan and thirty of the Clan Kay. The story has been imortalised by Scott in "The Fair Maid of Perth", but nothing is known of the background and nature of the feud.

There is a stone commemmorating the battle at NO 1175 2397 (information from M E C Stewart 9 January 1961).

W C Dickerson 1961.
