NLO: Pentland Firth [name centred ND 35 81].
St. Margaret's Hope, 23rd July. The PARAGON, Wallis, of and for Shields, from Quebec, has put into Widewall Bay, with 6 feet water in her hold, having lost anchor and chain, and struck on a reef in the Pentland Frith [Firth] on the 21st July.
Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 13,517, London, Tuesday June 28 1857.
NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 9392).
The map sheet and quasi-administrative area assigned to this record are essentially arbitrary. The location of loss may fall within the area designated as Maritime - Orkney.
The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably on account of her successful recovery.
Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 25 October 2006.
