NLO: Staxigoe [name: ND 384 525]

Wick [name: ND 362 508].

Staxigo [Staxigoe], 4th Apl. A small boat, about 12 feet of keel, green on the inside on a lead-coloured bottom for two streaks, with iron eyes fore and aft, drove on shore at this place yesterday: it is supposed to belong to some Norwegian, or a ship of that build: there are only two streaks with the keel.

Staxigo [Staxigoe], 8th Apl. A square sterned boat belonging to some vessel, drove on shore at this place: she is about 16 feet of keel, painted green on the inside, black outside, with a blue upper streak, no name on her, two or three streaks broke off on one side: she is all sprung in coming in amongst the rocks.

Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 13,426, London, Monday April 13 1857.

NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 9360).

The map sheet and quasi-administrative area assigned to this record are essentially arbitrray being derived from the reported location of discovery of the boat. The vessel may have foundered offshore, possibly beyond Scottish waters.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998).

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 19 October 2006.
