Archaeological Evaluation (2 June 2005)
NT 12620 74313 An evaluation was carried out on previously undeveloped land comprising former allotments/garden plots, produced evidence of activity and potential settlement of medieval date on the site of a proposed small housing development. The development area, formerly Church of Scotland property, lies close to the core of Kirkliston (formerly Temple Liston) and is adjacent to a row of listed buildings fronting High Street.
A number of linear features and a hearth were discovered, from which a range of 12th- to 14th-century pottery was recovered. Collectively, these features may represent the remains of a small timber building with a hearth within a relict property plot aligned to High Street. Environmental samples have also demonstrated the probability of metalworking taking place in the near vicinity.
Report lodged with Edinburgh SMR and NMRS.

Watching Brief (31 October 2006 - 1 November 2006)
NT 12620 74313 Headland Archaeology were commissioned to carry out a watching brief during the intrusive groundworks associated with the two proposed house plots, at Well Flats Road, Kirkliston, Edinburgh. This was due to the discovery of archaeological features during the evaluation. Only four features were uncovered, a silted‐up gully, possible posthole and pit and C19th garden wall.
