Archaeology Notes

NT35NE 38.02 35586 59919

A stone built single arch bridge carrying fram track from Catcune House ) to Catcune farmsteading.

The bridge has now been filled to the top of the arch with rubble.

Visited by RCAHMS (DE), 14 October 2008

Information provided by the owner states that the bridge was infilled and by-passed to accommodate heavy lorries, allowing them to avoid the very sharp turn on to the original bridge. The new railway project will be required to construct a new bridge to replicate this.

Visited by RCAHMS (DE, AL), 15 February 2010

Activities

Project (April 2009 - February 2015)

The Borders Railway Project proposals are to reinstate the Newcraighall to Tweedbank section of the former Waverley Line. The reinstated railway line will be approximately 48km long and the majority of the route will use the existing railway embankment.

Several field surveys, archaeological evaluations and standing building surveys were undertaken by CFA Archaeology from April 2009 until February 2015.
