Archaeology Notes

NG88NW 8006 unlocated

NLO: Loch Ewe [name centred NG 84 86].

Possibly on map sheets NG88NE, NG88SW, NG88SE, or NG89SE.

Stornoway, 22nd Oct. The PHOENIX, of this port, McDonald, drove from her anchors, 16th Oct., at Roch [Loch] Ewe, during a gale from the SW.

Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 13,283, London, Saturday October 25 1856.

NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 9286).

The map sheet assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably suggesting her successful recovery.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 12 October 2006.
