Bowmore, Islay, 5th Apl. The ELIZA (barque), from St. John, N.B., to the Clyde, with timber, has come ashore in Laggan Bay, and is likely to become a total wreck: a good deal of the deck-load has been saved.

(Classified as barque, with cargo of timber: date of loss cited as 5 April 1855). Eliza: this vessel stranded in Laggan Bay, and [was] expected [to become a] wreck.

The map sheet assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary. The extensive embayment of Laggan Bay is situated immediately S of (outside) the E side of the entrance to Loch Indaal. It offers no shelter, being open to the SW.
