This weir spans the River Irvine to the W of Irvine. No associated industrial function is apparent, but the OS (GIS) map notes that it forms the normal limit of tides. It also forms the upper limit of Irvine Harbour (NS33NW 40.00), the extensive area of which is centred at NS 30668 38222..
The location assigned to this record indicates the midpoint of the structure. The available map evidence indicates that it extends from NS c. 31611 39638 to NS c. 31656 39672.
