Archaeology Notes

ND34NW 86 ND 34078 45753

Nothing is visible of this farmstead, and its site lies in a cultivated field 200m NE of Upper Thrumster farmsteading. As depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix), the steading comprised a roofed range aligned NE and SW, with a well immediately to the S. The 2nd edition of the map (1907 sheet xxix) shows an unroofed extension attached to the NE end of the NW side of the range; the well is not depicted.
