Archaeology Notes

NT82SW 299 from 8428 2034 to 8440 2011

Lying on a moderate, rising to steep, SE-facing slope at the base of the spur between the Sourhope Sike and the Sourhope Burn and wholly within an improved field, there are the vestigial traces cross-contour rig, measuring 250m from NW to SE by up to 140m. On the SW the rig bounds a further area of cross-contour rig (NT82SW 301) possibly destroying its upper limit. On the NW the upper limit of the rig appears to be clipped by the E limit of a field-system (NT82SW 298). The rig measures up to 3.6m in width between furrows up to 1.1m wide and less than 0.1m deep.
