(Location cited as HY 446 490). Westray, Gill Head pier and storehouse, 18th to 19th century. A large rubble pier with a small square light-tower at the end. There is a wood-jib post crane, still in use. At the landward end is a three-storey ten-bay drystone rubble store.

Together with the New Pier (HY44NW 45.03), this pier forms what is in effect a harbour, the jetty HY44NW 45.02 being situated between them.

Field Visit (1998)
Built around 1875, Gill Pier serves both the modern fishing fleet and the passenger ferry to Papa Westray. It is located beyond the village, to the north of the bay and is surrounded by 19th C storehouses, several of which remain in use.
