(NO 1077 1639) Dovecot (NAT)

OS 25" map, (1966)

Dovecot, Ecclesmagirdle: Probably 1648. Small, circular and crowstepped with lean-to roof, rubble-built, stone boxes. Square on W side with door.

SDD 1960-.

This small cylindrical dovecot has recently been renovated. It measures 1.85m in diameter within a wall 0.9m in thickness and traces of wraggles on the NW and NE suggest that it may have originally been incorporated into a barmkin wall. There is a door on the W and the interior contains about 205 nesting boxes.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS, IF), 27 November 1996.
