Archaeology Notes

NS37NE 205 39280 79218

This bridge formerly carried a railway across the River Leven to the W of Bonhill; it is depicted, but not noted, on the 1992 edition of the OS 1:10,000 map. The location assigned to the record defines the centre of its span, but the map evidence suggests that it extends from NS c. 39272 79246 to NS c. 39286 79196.

The nature of the railway line cannot be established from the available map evidence. It was probably a siding giving access from the Balloch branch to the industrial estate on the E bank of the river.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 4 January 2006.
