Ardsheal House

Ardsheal House, c.1790, remodelled and greatly enlarged, J. G. Falconer, 1906 Rambling mansion approached by a winding drive skirting Kentallen Bay, the long, rectangular form of its predecessor still evident at its core. This earlier house of the Stewarts of Ardsheal was destroyed in June 1746, when the estate was forfeited; the square, Georgian box built to its east dates from sometime after 1786. The Edwardian remodelling for A. P. Cameron was extensive but architecturally undistinguished, elongating the house with a series of gabled wings ranged along the spine of rock on which it stands, and with a tower rising sheer from the cliff overlooking Loch Linnhe. Internal redecoration of this period included the oak-panelled hall.
