Archaeology Notes

NN59SE 63 5871 9058

A concrete block was recorded here during a detailed archaeological survey of Strathmashie Community Forest near Laggan, Highland. The concrete block is located in the River Mashie and protrudes out of the water. It appears to have been some sort of bridge support, probably connected to the Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit, which worked here during WWII. The survey was carried out to assess the evidence for past human use and to ascertain whether there was enough archaeology to develop a heritage trail in the forest.
