Archaeology Notes

NN59SE 53 5654 9011

The remains of two sections of iron rail were recorded here during a detailed archaeological survey of Strathmashie Community Forest near Laggan, Highland. The survey was carried out to assess the evidence for past human use and to ascertain whether there was enough archaeology to develop a heritage trail in the forest. The two rails are 17-18m in length and were part of the Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit, who worked here during WWII.
