Archaeology Notes

NN58NE 23 5635 8978

Two sections of railway, built by the Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit during WWII, were recorded here during a detailed archaeological survey of Strathmashie Community Forest near Laggan, Highland. The survey was carried out to assess the evidence for past human use and to ascertain whether there was enough archaeology to develop a heritage trail in the forest. The sections of railway found do not appear to be in situ. They are located on the high western bank of the River Pattack, above a large pool.
