Field Visit (23 October 1988)

The remains of the farmstead of Rure (Stobie 1783) which was abandoned by 1867 (OS 1st ed sheet 32) comprises the footings of one long building and the fragmented remains of enclosures and lengths of wall close to the burn to the S. The building lies at the S edge of a conifer plantation and is entirely covered with trees; it measures 25.2m from E to W by 4.8m over wall-footings 0.9m in thickness and 0.3m in height. It has three compartments, each probably with an entrance on the S, and at the E end there is an outshot (3.8m E-W by 4.8m overall).

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 23 October 1988.
